CONCORDE - 1993 & 2015 & 2017

Helsinki International Airport, Helsinki, Finland

Ceiling-suspended permanent indoor sculpture.

Concorde was Stefan Lindfors’ first commissioned large-scale sculpture. Architect firm Ruokosuo (Helsinki) & The Finnish Aviation board wanted a creation for the ceiling of the new domestic terminal hall, opening for traffic in January 1993. In the mid 2010s the Domestic Terminal was integrated with the international terminals, and Concorde was moved to be suspended in the ceiling of a new hub in 2015. In August 2017 Helsinki International Airport opened yet another new hub, and Lindfors’ sculpture was (once again) “up-graded” to its final destination - now hanging above passengers at this new airport venue.
